Smith And Pollard Set Ireland Imposing 276-Run Target

Devon Smith scored a century and Kieron Pollard 94 as the West Indies were bowled out for 275 by Ireland in their Cricket World Cup Group B game in Chandigarh.
Smith hit 107 while Pollard his runs from just 55 balls, hitting five sixes in a brutal innings that set Ireland a stiff target to keep their hopes of reaching the quarter-finals alive.
Missing Chris Gayle at the top of the order, Smith and Shivnarine Chanderpaul (35) opened up with an 89-run partnership before Kevin O'Brien dismissed both Chanderpaul and Darren Bravo with no further addition to the score.
Ramnaresh Sarwan then fell for ten before Smith and Pollard joined forces putting on 88 for the fourth wicket to lay the foundations for an excellent score.
Smith hit 11 fours and a six before he was bowled by O'Brien while in addition to his five sixes, Pollard hit eight fours and he was dismissed when he was caught by Boyd Rankin off John Mooney.
Darren Sammy (4), Devon Thomas (2), Andre Russell (3), Sulieman Benn (2) and Kemar Roach (1) all fell cheaply in the pursuit of quick runs with O'Brien returning four for 71.
